BRT TV, known as the first channel of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, was established in 1963.
The channel, which has a high viewership rate, has a broadcasting history of 57 years. It initially entered the field of radio and television broadcasting under the name “Bayrak Radyosu” (Flag Radio). The first slogan of this radio was “Bayrak, Bayrak, Bayrak” (Flag, Flag, Flag). With the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, the radio adopted the name “Bayrak Radyo Televizyon Kurumu” (Flag Radio Television Corporation). BRT 1 in Northern Cyprus has a strong broadcasting tradition, and on December 25, 2014, it transitioned to HD broadcasting. After the inclusion of HD broadcasting in the Türksat satellite, on February 14, 2015, it switched to a 16:9 widescreen format, continuously improving the quality of its broadcasts each year.
